Clubs

 The American Sign Language (ASL) club focuses on teaching the language to beginners and those with previous knowledge. Meetings usually consist of game play and short lessons regarding ASL and deaf culture.

Bearden Archery was founded in 2017 to promote the sport of archery for both recreation and competition. Founding members include Athena Marlar and Kristy Dean. The mission is to inspire the sport of archery and encourage sportsmanship with positive and enjoyable opportunities to improve marksmanship. If you are interested in participating in the Archery Club, please complete the Google Form located here. 

The club provides a safe, friendly, and fun place to grow as an archer scholar-athlete.  Recently, the club announced that they have acquired new equipment from NASP and TWRA, which includes bows, targets, and backdrops.

Art Guild is a club for any student interested in Visual Art. Students do not need to be currently enrolled in an art class to join. The group works on beautifying the school building by painting teacher-requested murals. The club also creates its own art during meetings. 

Meetings take place in Room 334 on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. The club sponsor is Mrs. Paula Goepfert.

The Black Student Union (BSU) is an organization founded to provide a safe and supportive community for Black students, foster their cultural identity, and advocate for their rights and needs. Originating in the 1960s, BSUs serve as important spaces for education, unity, and leadership development, offering social events, cultural programs, and platforms to address issues like racial discrimination and campus safety for students of color.

Meetings are held on Tuesdays in Room 412 from 3:40 to 4:30 pm. Club Sponsor is Kristen Skates.

Bowling is a sport that students can do for the rest of their lives, whether competitively or just for fun!  

The Bearden Bowling Club is sponsored by Dr. Angelia Ford.

Craft club is a safe space where students can chill and make crafts together! Each month, there is a different seasonal theme for students to enjoy creating together. Anyone interested is welcome to join. 

The club meets weekly in Room 412 from 3:40 to 4:30 pm. Sponsor is Caroline Krivo.

A club for writers, readers, and the curious to practice writing skills and find a community to support them through their creative writing journey.

The Creative Writing Club meets on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in Room 336. Club sponsor is Mrs. Autumn Suranofsky.

Interested in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, or just messing around with tech? Join Cybersecurity Club! Students will learn cybersecurity fundamentals, prepare for competitions like CyberPatriot and PicoCTF, and experiment with computers, tools, and other challenges.

The group meets on Thursdays, 3:30–5:00 PM in Room CTE-E. Club Sponsor: Mr. Harrison Hicks. 

Dawgathon raises money for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital by throwing events and coming up with fun and creative ways to benefit the children.

DawgStreet is a student investing club that teaches the fundamentals of the stock market. Members participate in market analysis discussions, hear from guest speakers in the finance industry, and manage a student-run group hedge fund. It’s a hands-on way to learn, collaborate, and build real-world investing skills.

The club meets in Room 312 every Friday at 8:00 am. Club sponsor is Eric Swant.

Debate Club is open to students who want to sharpen their speaking skills, think on their feet, and learn the key to winning arguments (respectfully). Debate is an easy, relaxed way to improve public speaking skills, boost confidence, and have fun after school. 

The club meets on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:15 pm. in room 339. Club Sponsor is Nesha Lee. 

Bearden DECA is the business and marketing club focused on competitive events, leadership, and community service. Students pick from over 25 various business, marketing, and management events to compete in at the district, state, and national levels. Bearden DECA members learn and utilize communication, leadership, professionalism, and time management skills throughout the year. DECA is an international organization and is widely known and respected in the business world. Follow us on Insta @beardendeca!

Design Club works in teams to draw, design, and create!

Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members strive to be great leaders. The club focuses on community service inside and outside of the school!

The club meets monthly in Room 326 at 8:00 am. Club sponsor is Angelia Ford. 

The French Club is the place where the French come together! Students interested in French culture are invited to attend. No language skills required.  Be prepared to meet new friends, listen to French music, watch French movies (with subtitles), and hang out with others who enjoy La Vie Française!

The Gay Straight Alliance club (GSA) educates about LGBTIA+ issues and promotes a safe, inclusive space for all individuals. 

GSA meets at 3:30 on Fridays in Room 308. Club Sponsor is Melanie Kennedy.

Hispanic Heritage Club meets bi-weekly on Wednesdays, right after school in Room 414. 

A Hope Squad is a group of students nominated by their peers. They meet regularly with trained faculty advisors to talk and learn about mental health. 

Hope Squad meets twice monthly on the first and third Friday at 7:45 am before school in the library Maker Space.

The Hiking Club exists for students to enjoy seasonal hikes in local areas and national parks.

Future Health Professionals (HOSA) invites students with a professional interest in healthcare and health sciences to join. This club competes in different healthcare events and attends Tennessee HOSA's State Leadership Conference. This club is a great opportunity to learn more about the medical field and gain valuable experience.

Interclub Council was established in 1986 as a branch of the Student Government to provide an equal voice for the clubs and activities at Bearden High School. Each club at Bearden has a sponsor, a club charter, and approval of administration with a school grounds adopt-a-spot. They send student leaders to Interclub council meetings.  

Interclub council, also known as ICC, has monthly meetings for clubs on the first Friday of the month at 8:00 am in room 326 to share their proceedings and collaborate with other clubs. Each club may send one or two representatives.

Japanese Club learns about local traditions, tries Japanese food, volunteers at local cultural events, and learns the Japanese language.

The Bearden High School Jewish Student Union provides a welcoming space for students to connect, celebrate Jewish culture, and engage in discussions about Jewish history & values. Everyone is welcome!

The club meets on Fridays from 7:45 to 8:20 am. Club sponsor is Alex Peeden.

Key Club is a community service-based club that focuses on developing four core values in our students: Leadership, Character Building, Caring, and Inclusiveness. Meetings are on held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 7:45 a.m. in the Auditorium.

The club opens to new members at the end of the school year (May) and accepts those members during the following fall semester (September).

Latin Club focuses on studying classical languages and learning about ancient Greek and Roman culture. The club is affiliated with the Junior Classical League.

Interested in politics, debate, and community?  Model United Nations debates international topics from the point of view of countries around the world. From immigration rights to whether mountains or beaches make better vacation spots, Model UN covers wide-ranging topics. 

Model United Nations meets every Friday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in Room 402. 

The Muslim Student Association (MSA) educates Bearden students and staff on Islam in an all-inclusive environment. If you are interested in learning about Islam or want to meet new people, you should stop by. You can follow the club on Instagram at @beardenhighmsa

National Art Honors Society (NAHS) welcomes all upperclassmen with an interest in art and a 3.0 or higher.  Join NAHS by filling out an application available at the beginning of each school year.

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

NHS participates in Fall Festival, helps SGA with Thanksgiving Baskets, volunteers at Rocky Hill Elementary school, sponsors a Homecoming Candidate, volunteers at Young Williams Animal Center and Convenant Hospices, helps UT students with Basket of Smiles (which provides Easter baskets for homeless and underprivileged children), helps clean and restore the Knoxville National Cemetery, passes out all of the programs at graduation, and volunteers at several walks/runs throughout the year.

To be considered as a member, students must be a Junior or Senior with a weighted GPA of a 3.5.  Those students will receive an application towards the end of September via student email.

NJROTC is a focused elective whereby students learn about the values of servant leadership, citizenship, community service, teamwork, grit, determination, collaborative planning, public speaking, discipline, physical fitness, and health and nutrition.  The NJROTC takes multiple trips to government institutions, military bases, and college campuses throughout the year in Washington, DC, California, Arizona, North Carolina & South Carolina, Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma, etc. They also compete in various physical fitness events like Spartan races, HYROX & DEKA competitions, hike the most scenic and challenging trails in America (e.g., Grand Canyon, Mt. San Jacinto, Mt Leconte, Mt. Sterling, and Rocky Tops), and take the Army and Marine Corps Combat fitness test every semester. NJROTC hosts guest speakers from congressional leadership, senior military officers, private sector businesses, recruiters, and community leaders.

Students looking to boost their resumes, have fun, get physically fit, and learn how to lead people and organizations are welcome to join!

Founded by high school teacher Jarred Amato, Project Lit is a national, grassroots LITeracy movement, a network of dedicated teachers and students who are committed to increasing access to culturally relevant books and promoting a love of reading in our schools and communities. What originally started as a book drive has morphed into a monthly book club for students, teachers, and community members to come together in a culture of shared reading.

Project LIT meets on the last Wednesday of the month in the library at 3:45-4:30 pm. Club sponsors are Hannah Sergent and Kristen Heffern. 

ProjectU aims to unify students by spreading positivity and inclusion. The club encourages community service and is a great addition to your student resume. Everyone is invited to join us. We meet in the library before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Maker Space.

Red Cross Club's mission is to educate students through certifications like CPR and other humanities. Each month, the club holds a different community service project and encourages participation.

Red Cross Club meets once a month on Tuesday from 3:40 to 4:30 in room 425.  Club sponsor is Kris Musson.

Students will learn how to care for our reptiles, fish, and their enclosures. In addition, club members learn how to safely handle the animals and a few fun facts about them. 

Reptile Club meets in Room 422 on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 pm and on Friday mornings before school 7:50-8:20. Members can choose one day to attend or come to both meeting times.  Club sponsor is Tonya Henke.

Robotics club students design, build, and program robots.  The goal is to use the completed project to compete against other schools.

The club meets on Wednesday afternoons at 3:45-5:30 pm in the CTE building, room T. 

The Rock Climbing Club is a place where you can come and be yourself. The club practices Mondays and Fridays from 4 pm to 5 pm at River Sports Climbing Center. The Rock Climbing Club competes five times a year against other high schools. Students are invited to come and try it out for themselves.

Rotary Interact (also known as an Interact Club) brings students together to develop their leadership skills. Students can become leaders, earn volunteer hours, and listen to interesting monthly guest speakers from all different backgrounds.

The Science Olympiad club is seeking students who are interested in building things (like towers or catapults) and competing in events against other schools. 

The club meets every Tuesday in Room 426 after school. Club Sponsor is Andrea Hevrdeys. 

The Student Government Association (SGA) is a club that facilitates many student activities throughout the school year. It is mainly student-led, with various executive positions that manage activities and events.

SGA meets weekly after school in the library. Contact Autumn Suranofsky, club sponsor, with questions.

Teens for Christ meets at 8 AM on Monday mornings. We have a short Bible study and lesson. Members have the opportunity to share about themselves and participate in club activities. Students are invited to attend and enjoy fellowship and fun. 

The Ultimate Frisbee Team is created for students who enjoy the game of Ultimate Frisbee. Even students who have never played before can learn the basics, and multiple positions can match any student's throwing skills/ athletic skills. The club meets after school on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:00 on the open field behind the baseball field for practice. Games will be every Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm at Holston River Park.

Ultimate Frisbee is sponosored by Dawson Davies and Stephanie Richter.
