Enrollment / Transfers
Knox County Schools assigns students to schools based on the address of the family's primary residence. The school zone search tool can be used to help find your child’s zoned school.
School transfers may be requested if a family wishes for their student to attend a school different from their zoned school.

Nutrition
A balanced and nourishing diet is crucial for students’ overall well-being and academic success. We take a proactive approach to ensure that no student goes hungry and that all students have the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Our nutrition department uses LINQ Connect to administer the USDA’s National School Breakfast and Lunch programs.
The standard price for breakfast across the district is $2.
Lunch is $2.75 in our elementary schools, and $3 in our middle and high schools.
Many of our students purchase free or reduced-price meals and some schools are part of the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) that provides each of their students to receive free breakfast and lunch each day.

Ombudsman's Office
The Office of the Ombudsman serves as a navigator for families, employees, and the community to resolve issues or concerns through mediation and education. Our office hears and discusses the presenting concern, and after determining the need provides support in finding appropriate options and solutions.
Anyone with a concern is encouraged to contact the Ombudsman’s office for help resolving or clarifying a school or district issue. You can reach out by completing the online form, calling the office, or sending a letter or email.

Special Education
KCS is committed to equipping every student with the individualized services, interventions, resources, and supports needed to achieve success – no matter their ability, zip code, culture, or financial resources.

Technology Help Desk

Transportation
Free bus services are offered to families who live outside district-established Parent Responsibility Zones based on the distance a student’s home is from the school.
Approximately 42,800 students in grades K-12 travel more than 3 million miles on 335 buses each year to get to and from school.
You’ll find our daily bus reports, bus stop locator, and bus safety information on our transportation page.
